THE SCIENCE OF GREATNESS

» What we did

We took the goodness of coconut water and blended it with the science of sports drinks to create Greater > Than, a sports drink powered by coconut water. Relying on experts in sports science, we formulated Greater > Than to meet the needs of active bodies for hydration, electrolytes and energy.

» Why WE DID IT

We wondered why there couldn’t be a sports drink made of natural ingredients that tastes great and helps us get the most out of our bodies during training and competition. The natural hydrating properties of coconut water seemed a natural fit for a sports drink, so we studied how to best include coconut water into a formula that met the standards established by sports drink science.

» HOW WE DID IT

The natural hydrating properties of coconut water made it the perfect base for a greater sports drink

We started with coconut water as our base ingredient. The natural, clean taste of coconut water, its low carbohydrate content and high potassium level made for a good starting point in the formulation process. But plain coconut water is not perfectly suited to meet the needs of active bodies because it contains too much potassium and too little sodium to effectively replace what is lost in sweat.  Also plain coconut water’s heavy mouthfeel interferes with drinking  large volumes of fluid often required during exercise. So we tweaked the formula by raising the sodium and lowering the potassium to create an electrolyte profile that better reflects sweat electrolyte losses. Glucose* and fructose occur naturally in young coconut water and we took advantage of their well-established ability to speed fluid absorption and energize muscles by adding beet sugar – sucrose – as a third carbohydrate source. With the addition of just the right level of natural flavors, Greater > Than was born, a natural sports drink powered by coconut water that tastes great when you need it most.

» What sweating and dehydration take away,
G > T helps put back

Whenever we sweat, water, sodium, and potassium are lost from our bodies. That dehydration and electrolyte loss impairs performance and increases the risk of muscle cramps.

The sodium and potassium in G > T help speed fluid absorption and maintain hydration during exercise. After exercise, G > T’s sodium and potassium help restore hydration levels inside and outside of muscle cells.

G > T has more electrolytes than leading sports drinks

* Glucose is the most important sugar because it is the only carbohydrate the body can use to fuel muscles, brain, and other tissues.  Sucrose is comprised of glucose and fructose, and once absorbed, the body converts fructose into glucose.
